Banking Industry Integrity Charter Achieved the 100% Participation of All Licensed and Restricted Licence Banks
Launched by ICAC with the full support of the Hong
Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Hong Kong Association of Banks in
October 2024, the Banking Industry Integrity Charter (BIIC) has reached 100% subscription
rate for licenced banks and restricted licence banks, marking a key milestone
in Hong Kong’s collective action against corruption in the banking sector and
reflecting a strong, sector-wide commitment to integrity and clean
business. A special promotional video
has been produced by ICAC, featuring the Director of Corruption Prevention
explaining the development and achievements of BIIC, as well as the Deputy
Chief Executive of HKMA and the Chief Executive/ Chief Executive Officers of the three note-issuing banks sharing their
insights, highlighting the importance of public-private partnership in
fostering a culture of integrity and sustaining good corporate governance in the banking industry.
ICAC will continue providing support to the banking
sector through a series of targeted initiatives, including the issuance of the
“Banking Industry Integrity Focus” periodically, the organisation of
professional banking courses and thematic integrity management trainings, as
well as the development of dedicated platforms to foster engagement and
empowerment between ICAC and banks’ Integrity Officers, with a view to facilitating
the exchange and adoption of corruption prevention measures, and strengthening
the anti-corruption capabilities across the banking industry.
Looking ahead, ICAC will utilise and reinforce the
synergy created under BIIC and continue collaborating with international
partners to share Hong Kong’s experience, further reinforcing the city’s status
as an international clean financial centre.
